Jill Hetherington (Marlan), class of 1993, stands among the most accomplished three-sport athletes in Grand Ledge High School history, excelling in basketball, volleyball, and softball while providing standout leadership across all three programs.
A three-year varsity starter in basketball, volleyball, and softball, Hetherington distinguished herself as one of the most versatile and impactful student-athletes in the history of Grand Ledge High School. She served as captain of all three varsity teams during her junior and senior years, earned MVP honors in each sport as a senior, and received All-Conference and All-Area recognition across all three programs, culminating in her selection as Grand Ledge’s Top Senior Female Athlete for the class of 1993. On the basketball court, she was especially accomplished, as a junior helping lead the Comets to conference and district championships and the first regional championship in school history (1991), then following with an outstanding senior season that produced a 17–5 record, a share of the conference title, and additional Team MVP, All-Conference, and All-Area Dream Team honors
Following graduation, Hetherington continued her athletic career playing basketball at Lansing Community College for 2 seasons where she was named all-conference, all-region, and an Academic All-American for the 1994-1995 season. She averaged more than 12 ppg, and she carried a 3.85 GPA. After her accomplishments for LCC, she was recognized as one of the top 10 junior college prospects in the nation which earned her a full-ride athletic scholarship to Wayne State.,
Continuing her basketball career at Wayne State University for 2 more seasons, she emerged as a consistent scorer and team leader. During her time at Wayne State, she started all 50 of her career games, averaged 10.3 points per game, served as a team captain both seasons, and established herself as a standout long-range shooter, making 96 career three-pointers to rank 11th all-time in program history. She also set the school record for most three-pointers in a single season, 58, while shooting 38% from the three-point arc, a mark that stood for five years. She earned All-GLIAC and Academic All-American honors, graduating with a 4.0 GPA, and later assisted the basketball program as a graduate assistant while completing her graduate studies.
Beyond athletics, Hetherington has built a distinguished career in healthcare and business leadership as the founder and CEO of Peak Performance Physical Therapy, a multi-clinic rehabilitation and injury prevention organization serving Mid-Michigan. The company has been recognized by the Small Business Development Corporation as a Top 50 Company to Watch and Business of the Year, and Hetherington was personally recognized by Ernst & Young as one of the Top 12 Women Entrepreneurs in North America.
