Amy Schmidt (Viselli), a member of the Grand Ledge High School class of 2003, distinguished herself as one of the most versatile and accomplished athletes in the school’s history. Excelling in both gymnastics and diving, she captured the Division 2 state championship in 2003 for the all-around and the uneven bars, earning a top all-around score of 37.225 and a 9.6 on the bars. Her dedication and skill extended to diving, where she was a three-year varsity letterwinner and served as team captain. She earned All-State honors in 2002, was named to the All-Area Dream Team in 2001 and 2002, and set a school record with 11 dives totaling a score of 419, achievements that led to her recognition as Grand Ledge’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2003.

Following her remarkable high school career, Amy continued her athletic journey at Michigan State University, joining the Spartan Swimming and Diving team. She became a four-time NCAA regional qualifier, reaching the finals three times, and was named Spartan Diver of the Year twice. She led her team in individual scoring at the Big Ten Championships in her senior year, demonstrating the same dedication and excellence that had defined her high school career. Off the pool deck, Amy excelled academically, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors four times and being recognized twice by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for her scholastic achievements.

In 2007, Amy was honored with Michigan State University’s Outstanding Senior Award, a testament to her remarkable combination of athletic skill, academic excellence, and leadership. Her achievements left a lasting impact on both Grand Ledge High School and Michigan State University, setting a high standard for future student-athletes. Amy Schmidt’s legacy continues to inspire, reflecting the dedication, versatility, and commitment to excellence that defined her career.
